Who Actually Travel

TripsyTravel was born from a simple idea: the best travel advice comes from people who have slept in the airport, eaten the street food, and taken the wrong bus — and loved every minute of it.

We Started with a Single Blog Post and a Big Backpack

TripsyTravel started in 2019 when four friends — a data analyst, a food writer, a long-distance hiker, and a budget travel obsessive — kept sending each other the same message: "The travel guides online are useless. None of these people have actually been there."

So we made our own. The first post was about eating in Bangkok on $10 a day. It got 200 reads in its first week, which felt enormous at the time. Then 2,000. Then it went viral on Pinterest and our server crashed. We figured we might be onto something.

"We don't write about places we haven't been. We don't recommend restaurants we haven't eaten at. We don't give budgets we haven't actually tested. That's it. That's the whole policy."

Seven years later, TripsyTravel reaches over 2 million readers a year. The team has grown from four to twelve contributors across six countries. But the rule hasn't changed: every article is written from personal experience. No AI-generated filler. No PR junkets that aren't disclosed. No "Top 10 Places in X" written from a desk in a country we've never visited.

What We Believe

Honest First

We say when somewhere is overrated, when a "must-see" isn't worth the queue, and when the Instagram photo doesn't match reality. Our readers trust us because we trust them with the truth.

Written by Real Travelers

Every article is written by someone who has been there — not aggregated, not AI-assisted, not outsourced. We believe the best travel writing comes from genuine curiosity and first-hand experience.

Travel for Everyone

We cover backpacker budgets and boutique hotels alike. Travel shouldn't be reserved for the wealthy. Most of our most beloved articles are about doing extraordinary things on ordinary budgets.

Respect for Local Culture

We write about places as they are, not how tourists wish they were. We credit local knowledge, encourage respectful travel, and push back against the kind of overtourism that destroys the things we love.

Transparent About Money

We disclose every affiliate relationship, every sponsored trip, every partnership. Our editorial opinions are never for sale. If we say something is good, it's because we genuinely think so.

Global Perspectives

Our team travels from and to every corner of the world. We deliberately seek out writers from the places they write about, because the best guide to Marrakech is written by someone who grew up knowing it.
